Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has begun the production of tyres for truck and buses at its Ladysmith plant in South Africa. The company says the aim of the production at the factory is to ensure a stable supply of truck and bus tyres for markets throughout Africa and SRI has invested 970 million Rand ($AU98.2 million) to install cutting-edge facilities at the factory.

Until now, Sumitomo Rubber South Africa has relied on imports to supply African markets with truck and bus tyres. With the start of local production, the company says it will work to enhance its tyre sales business on the continent as part of its efforts to further grow and develop its global business.
