Michelin Scorcher Sport tyres have been selected to equip the first Harley-Davidson all-electric motorcycle, the LiveWire.
The tyre, co-developed and co-branded with Harley-Davidson, integrates Michelin’s Dual Compound Technology (2CT and 2CT+). The company says these compounds extend the performance of the Scorcher tyre range by providing ‘outstanding levels of wet and dry grip’. The technology enables the Scorcher Sport tyre to provide wear resistance in the centre of the tread with optimised grip on the shoulders, and the tyre also features a radial casing ‘tuned specifically to extract the maximum performance’ from the LiveWire.
Michelin says that for this tyre project, its engineers worked directly with Harley-Davidson for two years.
The LiveWire is powered by the H-D Revelation all-electric powertrain that delivers some pretty serious performance figures. 0-100km/h is reached in three seconds, and 100km/h to 130km/h is done in a further 1.9 seconds. The bike has up to 235km of range and fast charge technology will, says Harley, provide 0-80 per cent of battery charge in 40 minutes or 0-100 per cent in one hour.
The LiveWire motorcycle will be available in 2019 through select authorised Harley-Davidson dealerships in the United States, Canada and most European countries where Harley-Davidson conducts business, with expanding global availability planned for 2020 through 2021.
