McLaren has revealed its take on a modern Grand Tourer with its new GT.
Positioned alongside the established Sports, Super and Ultimate Series families, the new car, says McLaren, provide an alternative to existing product in an expanding market segment. The company says its GT is ‘faster and more engaging than existing products in the segment, with greater space, comfort and usability’.
The GT has a carbon fibre structure and aluminium body panels, helping it to a 400hp per tonne power-to-weight ratio thanks to a 611hp, 4-litre, twin-turbocharged McLaren V8. That’s all good enough to haul to GT from 0-200km/h in 9 seconds and a top speed of 326km/h.
To deliver that GT, luxury feel, there’s plenty of top-quality material used in the interior, including the choice of Nappa leather, Alcantara and Cashmere. There’s a new infotainment system – paired with a 12-speaker, Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system – and HERE navigation mapping with real-time traffic information. There’s a seven-inch central touchscreen used for vehicle functions such as Bluetooth, media streaming and DAB digital radio. Ahead of the driver and providing key information is a 12.3-inch TFT screen. In addition to vehicle speed, gear selection and engine revs, the instrument cluster can also display turn-by-turn navigation, phone calls, chosen audio output and tyre temperatures and pressures
New proactive Damping Control suspension system combined with hydraulic steering system delivers, the company says, excellent levels of comfort and driving dynamics.
Delivery of a GT ordered now is marked for the end of 2019. Price is £163,000 ($AU297,000).
